About Us

Team 1601 is a student based organization located at Aviation High School in Long Island City, Queens, N.Y. Originally started in 2005 as part of the First Robotics Competiton (FRC). The Quantum Samurai was established to motivate, inspire, and prepare young students for their future careers. With the aid of enginners, mentors, and volunteers young students learn to overcome their challenges, acquire new skills and make new friends. They learn how to use equipment while at the same time working cooperatively in order to build a robot that is used every year at the Annual FRC. Throughouth the season which lasts for approximately six weeks, Team 1601 focuses on learning, designing, and buiding a robot that represents the team. During this time students are introduced to real world challenges and real world situations and real time experience. It is a place where science and technology come hand in hand, where friendship and knowledge work together and where gracious professionalism is the most important part.

How we gained our name
The Quantum Samurai was named after the strong influence of the cultures and the mixture of scientific knowledge in our school. Quantum means quantity or amount, thus referring to the size of our team. And Samurai means loyal and true warrior.

About our Logo
The Quantum Samurai logo was created during the 2005 season to represent the team spirit. Throughout the years it has been used in our team shirts, buttons, accesories, and posters becoming a symbol among our members. The initial design of the logo was created by an unknown artist.
